A charming village of fascinating colors
“A picturesque and charming medieval village”
Cefalù is a delightful Norman village lying on the shores of a crystal clear sea and dominated by a fortress known as “the Rock.” With a tiring staircase you can reach the top of this imposing hill to admire a breathtaking view and the fascinating temple of Diana that will reward all the efforts of the climb. This medieval village is one of the most beautiful in Italy thanks to its artistic and cultural heritage. Here, the winding and cobblestone alleys with panoramic balconies conceal many hidden treasures such as the public wash house, reachable through a lava stone staircase, and other Renaissance palaces such as Palazzo Piraino and Palazzo Vescovile.
The most important monument is definitely the Cathedral (cathedral) which is located right below the cliff overlooking the city; since 2015 it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was built during the twelfth century and is still a jewel of architecture Norman “Sicilian Romanesque”. Inside the cathedral there are the mosaics of Christ Pantocreator in Byzantine style that can surprise anyone in front of it.
Finally, Cefalù is surrounded by a mysterious aura; behind every beauty of this place lie several legends..
