Marina di Ragusa began as an ancient fishing village, until it became a renowned tourist hub today. Its current name dates back to the Fascist era and was chosen by the hierarch Filippo Pennavaria. Originally Marina di Ragusa was called Mazzarelli, which comes from Arabic and means small landing/ hamlet. In 2009 and 2010 it was awarded with the “Bandiera Blu” recognition.
