Taormina

Taormina is a magical place full of emotions. A place where beauty and colors blend harmoniously. Ghoete himself called it “a piece of heaven on earth”. Nowadays Taormina continues to fascinate everyone, including poets and artists from all over the world . This land suspended between mountains and sea enchants all its guests with its breathtaking landscapes, its crystal clear water and its bright colors. This place accurately reflects its island, so it is often called “la Sicilia in miniatura”. Taormina has an enchanting natural and landscape heritage, but it is also marked by the different populations who lived here over the centuries. Its history is surrounded by charm and mystery with roots dating back to 358 BC. Every corner of this wonderful place will make you retrace its history: influences and dominations that have left their mark and to which we owe the charm of the city. The Ancient Theatre dates back to the Greek period. It was built in the third century B.C. It was built in the third century BC exploiting taking advantages from the morphology of the hill and the beauty of the landscape. Later under the Roman domination the city assumed greater importance, becoming “capital of eastern Sicily”. The Romans created another symbol of the city, the Naumachie. The city was later under the rule of the Arabs, Normans and Spaniards, who contributed to the creation of the present village.
